WhentheWakeonLANfeatureisenabledandthecomputerisconnectedtoaLAN,thenetworkadministrator
canstartthecomputerremotelyfromamanagementconsole,usingaremotenetwork-managementprogram.
ToenableordisabletheWakeonLANfeature,dothefollowing:
1.StarttheThinkPadSetupprogram.See“UsingtheThinkPadSetupprogram”onpage101.
2.SelectCong➙Network.TheNetworksubmenuisdisplayed.
3.SelectacorrespondingoptionfortheWakeonLANfeature.
4.PressF10.ASetupConrmationwindowisdisplayed.ClickYestosavethecongurationandexit
theThinkPadSetupprogram.
DeningaNetworkBootsequence
WhenthecomputerwakesonLAN,thecomputerbootsfromthedeviceasspeciedontheNetworkBoot
menu,andthenfollowthebootorderlistontheBootmenu.
TodeneaNetworkBootsequence,dothefollowing:
1.StarttheThinkPadSetupprogram.See“UsingtheThinkPadSetupprogram”onpage101.
2.SelectStartup➙NetworkBoot.Thebootdevicelistisdisplayed.
3.Selectabootdevicetomakeitasthetopbootpriority.
4.PressF10.ASetupConrmationwindowisdisplayed.ClickYestosavethecongurationandexit
theThinkPadSetupprogram.
Note:YoucanpressF9torestoretothefactorydefaultsettings.
Checkingtherequirementsforashupdates
Anetworkadministratorcanupdatetheprogramsonyourcomputerfromamanagementconsole,ifthe
followingrequirementsaremet:
•ThecomputermustbestartedoverLAN.
•ThecomputermustbeengagedinthePrebooteXecutionEnvironment(PXE).
•Anetwork-managementprogrammustbeinstalledonthecomputerofthenetworkadministrator.
