Staticelectricityprevention
Staticelectricity,althoughharmlesstoyou,canseriouslydamagecomputercomponentsandoptions.
Improperhandlingofstatic-sensitivepartscancausedamagetothepart.Whenyouunpackanoptionor
aCRU,donotopenthestatic-protectivepackagethatcontainsthepartuntiltheinstructionsdirectyou
toinstallthepart.
WhenyouhandleoptionsorCRUs,orperformanyworkinsidethecomputer,takethefollowingprecautions
toavoidstatic-electricitydamage:
•Limityourmovement.Movementcancausestaticelectricitytobuilduparoundyou.
•Alwayshandlecomponentscarefully.Handleadapters,memorymodules,andothercircuitboardsbythe
edges.Nevertouchexposedcircuitry.
•Preventothersfromtouchingcomponents.
•Whenyouinstallastatic-sensitiveoptionorCRU,touchthestatic-protectivepackagethatcontainsthe
parttoametalexpansion-slotcoverorotherunpaintedmetalsurfaceonthecomputerforatleasttwo
seconds.Thisreducesstaticelectricityinthepackageandyourbody.
•Whenpossible,removethestatic-sensitivepartfromthestatic-protectivepackageandinstallthepart
withoutsettingitdown.Whenthisisnotpossible,placethestatic-protectivepackageonasmooth,
levelsurfaceandplacethepartonthepackage.
•Donotplacethepartonthecomputercoverorothermetalsurface.
Disablingthebuilt-inbattery
Beforereplacinganydevices,ensurethatyouhavedisabledthebuilt-inbatterybydoingthefollowing:
1.Disconnecttheacpoweradapterandallcablesfromthecomputer.
2.Restartthecomputer.WhentheThinkPadlogoisdisplayed,pressF1tostarttheThinkPadSetup
program.
3.GotoCong➙Power➙DisableBuilt-inBattery.
4.PressEnter.ASetupConrmationwindowisdisplayed.
