RF550VPN/RF560VPN Reference Guide – Using Advanced Settings 14
Example 2
RF550VPN/RF560VPN LAN Filtering
This example explains how to setup LAN filtering on the RF550VPN/RF560VPN to control access to the
WAN. The LAN Filter Settings function allows the network administrator to define whether LAN users
have the permission to access the WAN side of the RF550VPN/RF560VPN. A similar configuration to
example one will be used for this example, but the RF550VPN/RF560VPN does not require configuration
as a Virtual Server to use LAN filtering. This example is broken down into two scenarios. Scenario one
blocks everything except those IP addresses defined under Filter Entry. Scenario two allows everything
to pass except those IP addresses defined under Filter Entry.
Scenario One
1. To access this screen, click the Filter Settings button on the left side of the Advanced Settings
screen. Then click on LAN Filter Settings.
2. Check the LAN Side Filter Enabled box to activate the filter and allow a list of users and permissions
to be created.
3. Select the Default LAN Side Filter: Block or Pass. For this example, set this to Block. This means
that the LAN, as a whole, will not have access to the WAN side of the RF550VPN/RF560VPN (i.e.
The Internet).
4. Select the client filter setting: Block or Pass. For this example, set this to Pass. This means that
only the clients specified below in the IP Address Range will have access to the WAN side of the
RF550VPN/RF560VPN, but only by using the Destination Port Range specified.
