FaxFinder Configuration Guide: 3Com NBX PBX Systems

Introduction

This configuration guide includes setup information for 3COM PBX model NBX vs 6.0.31 and Multi-Tech

FaxFinder model FF110 vs 1.04C. This guide will step you through the PBX and FaxFinder settings which

will allow incoming fax DID numbers to be sent to the FaxFinder DID port.

How it Works

The PBX has an incoming PRI line from the Telco with fax DID numbers assigned. The PRI line is connected

to the T1/PRI Module (3C10116) in the NBX. When the PBX received an incoming fax call, it detects the DID

number as a fax, and routes the call to a CO/Line port (FXO 3C10114). Connected to the CO/Line port is the

DID port on the FaxFinder. The PBX seizes the FaxFinder DID port and sends the DID digits to the

FaxFinder as DTMF digits. The FaxFinder goes off hook, receives the fax, and then emails the fax to an

email address which is provisioned in the FaxFinder phone book. The LINE port on the FaxFinder is

connected to an Analog Station port (FXS 3C10117C) on the PBX for sending faxes.

Installation Overview

We will be installing a FaxFinder model FF110 to 3COM PBX model NBX. The FF110 DID interface will be

connected to an analog CO/Line port on the PBX and the LINE interface connected to an analog station port.

Incoming fax PRI numbers will be routed to the FF110 DID port as DTMF digits. Based on the digits

received, the FF110 will forward the fax as a tiff attachment to the email recipient setup for those digits. This

requires the FF110 to be authenticated to an SMTP email server.

PC’s that have the Fax Finder client installed, will print a document to the FaxFinder print driver. Then the

file is converted to tiff. The client opens the FaxFinder Send Fax screen and enters recipient information.

The fax is queued to the FaxFinder, which sends the call to the NBX station port with digits to dial. This
